I highly recommend the JBR short shifter plate. But still the throw on the stock shifter is not so great. You fight the stick less to get into gear if that makes sense. For me it was a lot better than stock, shifting through gears while accelerating becomes a lot easier. and rear swat bars, PRG shackles, PRG motor mounts, PRG Trans mount. Sorry just noticed you asked about shifting feel. By swapping firing order positions, Mazda Protg and Cars 1990-1998 and Ford Probe. The most dramatic change was the engine stability, it almost eliminates wheel hop so you lose a lot of the fighting of the steering wheel on hard acceleration. Also noise transfer is minimal compared to other high duro mounts. It will break in with a little bit of time but you'll still get some vibes. When you buy a 70 duro you expect reasonable comfort but it felt like a much higher duro mount. No clunk when I tested, it's a very solid high quality mount but it does transfer too much vibration for what it is (IMO). You wouldn't fee you really saved the way I feel with other jobs that are worth doing yourself.I tested the first variation which most say feels the same as the second. The money you would save doing it yourself you would pay for in the work and sweat of doing it yourself. 1 Answer REMOVE REAR MOTOR MOUNT ON 1995 MAZDA PROTEGE HOW DO YOU REMOVE REAR MOTOR MOUNT ON 1995 MAZDA PROTEGE Posted by Brendaon Want Answer0 Clicking this will make more experts see the question and we will remind you when it gets answered. I suggest a tranny shop because they constantly have to be removing those things to remove transmissions in order to repair them. Call many shops until you get the best price.ĭon't go to a shady place or where you didn't feel comfortable with the way the guy sounded. They will give you the "we won't guarantee the job with your part". Some places don't mind at all if you bring in the part and a few actually welcome it. In case they don't like using parts bought by you, let them know you bought the part and were going to do the job yourself until you realized you don't have a tool to lift the engine's weight a little bit. Just call all around town to every transmission shop and tell them you don't have a problem with your tranny but need the lower mount installed. ![]() I had a transmission shop install it for me. I didn't actually use the engine hoist even though I've removed an engine before with one. You can also put a long thick block of wood from fender to fender and a chain around it and attach it to the engine. My neighbor has an engine hoist but not everyone has that facility. You can do it but you can see the complication involved. You will then have to remove the subframe/crossmember that the engine's weight sits on(by way of the mount). From what I could see, you will have to, at the very least, rent or borrow an engine hoist to hold up the engine. I took that very mount off but only from a car whose engine was removed. Check if this fits your 2001 Mazda Protege. I think he must have left it not tight enough, though, because you can't get a good enough angle like that to tighten it enough. Equip cars, trucks & SUVs with 2001 Mazda Protege Motor Mount from AutoZone. I heard one guy said he was able to do it but only thanks to his "girly" hands being so thin. ![]()
